Guidelines for the Fifth Annual Poetry Book Prize

There are about 300 submissions annually.

Opening date for submissions: May 1, 2020.

Deadline: August 31, 2020.

Fee: $25.00 USD for each manuscript.

The prize: The winning author shall receive a $1,000 cash prize, book publication, and 15 author copies.

The finalists: In addition to the winner, there will be 9 finalists.

Eligibility: Open to all English-language authors worldwide (of any age, ethnicity, gender, or sexual orientation) for a previously unpublished book of poetry.

Specifications: Manuscripts should be between 84 and 124 numbered pages including a Title Page and a Table of Contents. Single-spaced WORD DOCUMENTS ONLY (please, no PDF documents). Do not include any illustrations or graphics, and no translations. By submitting a manuscript to this contest, all authors attest that the work is their own.

Submission: Manuscripts should be submitted anonymously with ONLY the title on the first page. Be sure to include a separate cover letter with the title of your manuscript, your name, and your contact information. If you decide to include a list of acknowledgements, please include them in your cover letter, NOT with the manuscript. All manuscripts must be submitted electronically through Submittable (see the link below). Manuscripts submitted by third parties will not be eligible.

The judges: Richard-Gabriel Rummonds, publisher, Ex Ophidia Press; Sharon Cumberland, poet and Professor Emeritus, Seattle University; and Gregory C. Richter, Professor of Linguistics, Truman State University, will determine the prize-winning manuscripts.

Publication date: Early 2021. The winning volume will be published by Ex Ophidia Press.
